A Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi designed a hotel featuring the original statue enclosed in a luxury suite. The hotel was fully booked within an hour of its opening.


The hotel commissioned for the Singapore Biennale is situated next to the Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

It is now very clear that the Merlion statue is very Singapore’s national icon. In addition to this, it has also gained popularity overseas. Countries like Japan have also replicated a version of the Merlion.
